Clean the bowl you're going to use really well — you can use lemon.

Separate the whites from the yolks.

In a skillet, add the sugar, cover it with water and cook over high heat.

In a bowl, add the whites, the lemon and the salt.

Beat until the whites gain volume.

When the syrup has started to thicken (before it takes on any color), pour it little by little over the whites while beating.

Keep beating until the bowl cools down to room temperature. Add vanilla extract.

Gradually add the room-temperature butter while beating.
